Staining for Cedar products
If
left unfinished, cedar will turn a silvery gray for a rustic, weathered
look. However, a quality stain can enhance both cedar's good looks
and natural durability. It responds beautifully to oil-based stains
in your choice of tinted transparent finishes for a natural effect,
or lightly pigmented semi-transparent finishes. Look for a coating
that offers good mildewcide and ultraviolet shielding properties,
as well as additional preservatives to protect its youthful complexion.
Varnishes and other film-forming coatings which can crack and peel
and are not recommended for use on cedar.

Please
keep in mind that Gazebo Garden's Garden Furniture is not
made of cedar and is pre-stained. An application of teak oil
or other quality outdoor furniture oil every 12 to 48 months
will maintain the original patina.

Painting
For
a painted finish we recommend a solvent-based primer and compatible
second coat. Painting prior to assembly will result in better coverage
and an easier paint job. Wood left unfinished in inclement weather,
even for a short time, will develop water-stain marks. If this happens,
seal your structure with a coat of shellac before painting to prevent
the water marks from "bleeding" and showing through the paint coat.
For best results, follow the advice of a good paint dealer.

Please
keep in mind that Gazebo Garden's Garden Furniture is pre-stained
and could affect paint application. If you want to paint this
furniture you must first remove the original finish. A strong
scrubbing with a sponge, soap and warm water will remove the
top layer of finish. If followed by light sanding, the paint
of your preference should adhere satisfactorily to the product.
